Project Description

Quintessential, (aka Q5) is one of the largest composite sailing Superyacht catamarans in service, measuring 100ft (30.5m) in length and a staggering 48 feet (14.6m) in beam. The vessel is built to meet and exceed stringent GL class survey requirements, construction is high strength light weight post-cured epoxy Eglass/Carbon fibre incorporating foam sandwich technology. Powered by twin Caterpillar C7 455hp engines driving through two Hundested variable pitch feathering propellers.

Q5 cruises under power at a very respectable 10 to 12 knots or 9 knots on one engine for long range passage making. Maximum speed recorded under power is an impressive 14 knots at wide open throttle. Under sail during sea trials a boat speed of 14 knots was recorded in just 12 knots of true wind speed. The carbon fibre mast was built by Southern Spars NZ and stepped at Yachting Developments factory prior to launching, sails were custom designed and built by Doyles NZ. Yachting Developments teamed up with Auckland based Superyacht Interiors New Zealand (SINZ) in creating a stunning traditional teak interior and spacious outdoor entertainment/bar area. Naval architecture and exterior styling is by Warwick Yacht Design, interior design is by Redman Whitely Dixon.

Onboard water toys include a Hobbie sailing Catamaran, 7m (24ft) 150hp outboard powered catamaran tender, Yamaha Water Vehicle, kayaks, plus a spa pool in the foredeck. Generators are Kohler, the custom deck gear is by Yachting Developments. The winches and furlers are by Harken, and the captive winches are designed and manufactured in NZ by Onboard System NZ. The thrusters and standing rigging were manufactured by OYS. The interior is designed by Redman Whitely Dixon with a brief to incorporate both modern and traditional furnishings with a light color palette. Accommodation consists of an owner’s cabin located on the main level with direct access to the foredeck and spa pool area. The lower deck has two double cabins and one twin cabin along with a children’s den which includes two storable Pullman berths. The lower deck forward is home for the crew while further aft on the lower deck is home to the Captain and guest cabins. Owners representation has been provided by Newport based Marine Construction Management (MCM).
